I’m always amazed by how people react to problems. As a manager you know that every day you will face problems. Part of your existence is to solve them efficiently. I’m always grateful for small problems. Those that are easy to solve. The type that doesn’t keep you up at night.
Managers that take charge and control the process, the dialogue and the message will always have “small” problems. The staff around them will move through solutions with care and confidence. Conversely, I see managers who make big issues out of small problems. Instead of moving through them with confidence and efficiency they spend endless hours discussing them with anyone who will listen. They grow the problem.
When you spend your time complaining to others you have little time for solutions. Keep things in perspective. Engage with those you need to solve problems. Control the process and control the message and thank God for small problems.
